20 Things a true gentleman does differently

How do you know if your man is a true gentleman?

Here are 20 ways in which a true gentleman conducts himself differently.

1. Opens doors

A true gentleman opens the doors first, allowing others to pass. When he’s with women, he makes a point of opening and holding the doors for them and allowing them to exit and enter first.

2. Is punctual

A gentleman is always on time because he values his own and others’ time. He is always on time and delivers exactly what he promises. It demonstrates how courteous he is and how he respects others in the manner of a proper gentleman.

3. Is always closer to the curb

He always walks closest to the curb when walking on the sidewalk, putting himself between any potential danger and the woman he is with.

4. Covers the lady with his Jacket

When it’s chilly and the woman with this man feels cold, a true gentleman offers her his jacket, sacrificing his own comfort.

5. Helps her to sit

A true gentleman would never be the first to take his seat. When a woman was present, he would pull out the chair and offer her the seat, then gently move it closer to her, assisting her in sitting. He will always ensure that the woman is comfortable before taking a seat.

6. He is polite

We are taught to say “please” and “thank you” to others, but by the time we reach adulthood, most people have forgotten this small act of courtesy. A gentleman is always courteous, which is why he always wins the hearts of others.

7. Let’s others sit

When it comes to the elderly and women, a true gentleman never tires of sacrificing his comforts for the sake of others. If he sees a woman or an elderly person standing in a park, a subway, a bus, or a train, he offers them his seat.

8. Offers his arm

When he is out with a woman on a date, he makes her feel special by offering his arm to her. It really speaks volumes of his refined manners. Women too like him because they love walking arm-in-arm with a true gentleman.

9. Follows table etiquettes

He knows how to eat both in a BBQ joint and in a restaurant. He is well aware that he can eat food from a BBQ joint with his fingers and is unconcerned if he gets a little messy. When he visits a restaurant, however, he understands that silverware is not provided for no reason. For different types of dishes, he will make it a point to use the napkin and the spoons and forks correctly.

10. Is never rude to others

It is not the way of a gentleman to howl, shout, and insult others without regard for their feelings. He will always maintain control over his emotions and show restraint. He tries to empathise with others and never fails to show them basic respect.

11. Offers to pay the bill

A true gentleman always reaches for the bill and insists on paying it. However, when for some reason he does not pick up the bill first, he at least offers to pay the bill before allowing the other person. But, when he picks up the bill and makes the payment, whether he’s with a woman on a date or with a friend, he does not expect anything from them.

12. Offers his attention

When you speak with him, you can expect his undivided attention. As you speak or discuss something with him, he would make eye contact with you. When you speak to a man, he is rude and self-centred if he fiddles with his phone, looks away, watches TV, or engages in any other activity while you speak to him. He is far from a gentleman.

He not only listens to others, but he also remembers to compliment them on how they are dressed or what station they are on. This is especially true when he is around women. He understands what makes a woman happy and special, and he isn’t afraid to contribute.

13. Is true to his word

When a gentleman gives you his word for something, you can be sure he will do it. Whether it is a meeting or a date or something he promised you to provide help with.

14. Guards secret

A gentleman is not a blabbermouth. He speaks carefully and also knows how to keep the secrets of others.

15. Doesn’t discuss his woman with others

A true gentleman honours and respects his woman. His bedroom secrets are his own and he never discusses how his woman looks naked, or how she’s in the bed.

16. Is never violent with women

With a woman, he is never violent. By nature, a gentleman is a woman’s protector. He would never hit someone of the opposite sex unless they attempted to kill or injure someone who was not at fault.

17. Never starts eating first

This is basic courtesy, but not many people follow. A true gentleman starts eating only after everyone has been served.

18. Is truthful

He would never shy away from telling the truth. He maintains his honour by speaking the truth in all circumstances and is a man of trust.

19. Can fix problems

When you’re with such a man, you can tell he hasn’t wasted his years. He is a man who does not want others to come first around him or who expects others to do all of the work for him. He is always willing to lend a hand with household chores. He can cook, change a baby’s diaper, repair a car, and replace an electric fuse. He has gained knowledge, which makes life much easier for those around him.

20. Comes to the rescue of defenseless

True, in such men, the ancient knight is still alive. They have a special place in their hearts for warriors who would risk their lives to protect the helpless. Gentlemen are defined by their courage, fearlessness, and strength. When he sees women, children, and the innocent in danger, he stands up and fights for them, putting himself in danger.
